Purple Turtle Diving Limited presents; Phil Short speaking about aircraft archeology.
Many aircraft ditches were lost in wartime in the oceans of the world, and crews were lost. Using Maritime Archeology techniques, teams survey and excavate sites in order to retrieve the MIA/KIA crew for respectful burial to return to their families. Phil Short will speak about two projects that he oversaw as the DSO of Lund University in Croatia, and other aircraft sites around the world and some closer to home.
For over 30 years, Phil Short has been diving professionally, recording over 6000 dives and 7000+ hours underwater. At all stages of Open Water, Cave and Mine Technical Diving, from the start of teaching recreational SCUBA to becoming an Open And Closed Circuit Instructor Teacher, Phil has a passion for the growth and welfare of the educational system development and safety. In the last 8 years, Phil has moved into Scientific and Media diving, becoming a Diving Safety Officer (DSO) for numerous major archeological projects including the Antikythera, Mentor, Gribshunden wrecks and the Tulsamerican B-24 and a B-17 aircraft.
Phil is a FRGS (Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society), an Explorers Club Fellow, a recipient of the NSS-CDS Sheck Exley award for 1000 safe cave dives, and a 2016 Tech Dive USA Diver of the Conference award.
